Meditation Specialist Training Petaluma

I just returned from a 3 day training in Petaluma California where new students came together to connect with their fellow health care providers. We all arrived on campus by 4 PM to begin our clinic 1 training.

Our morning sessions started with yoga asana to support the meditation training topic of clinic 1, creating your seat. Many were surprised to feel the difference in the positive impact that yoga had on thier bodies after just 2 mornings.

Morning sessions of scientific content were informative discussing the autonomic nervous system, anatomy of sitting and how meditation affects the immune system. We even had time to discuss nourishment for the brain including how we eat affects how we think.

These sessoins were followed by afternoon practicums which provided reinforcement to the concepts learned in the morning sessions.

Last but not least, we were spoiled with fantastic meals. The Institue of Noetic Science has some of the best chefs that I have come across. Each day was met with fresh and balanced meals not to mention the wonderful desserts.

Life is Good!

It's so nice to read everyone comments, makes me feel connected again. I am meditating every day for about 15 minutes and I'm getting better at finding my seat. Just by chance, I have a full length mirror on the wall next to my chair so I can check myself out before I start meditating, to make sure my knees are lower than my hips - that really helps.
Our family is celebrating the birth of our first grandson. Evan was born on Feb 21 (his due date) and he is precious. Life is Good!

Grateful

Hello everyone,

It is inspiring to read others thoughts, I am so glad to finally be going on-line to stay connected. I think it will be one of the best things, so many programs get you started but then you are on your own.
I went on-line today and ordered a cushion and bench, so I am thoroughly now committed.
Susan, thank you again for a life changing program.

Ahhhh back in the groove

Hello all- It took the month of February in order for me to get my priorities in order. Back on track. 15 minutes in the morning. My mind is soooo noisy yikes. I think I am movig ahead with the diaphramatic breathing....What a difference breathing through my nose makes. I slow right down and focus. loving it. I look forward to June.

Petaluma Clinic 1

Hello Petaluma Clinic 1 friends,
It was great to spend time with everyone at our first clinic. I live only about an hour from Petaluma so I drove there and back. I thought I would be exhausted at the end of the days but found myself feeling very clear and alert on the drives home, something I can't help but attribute to meditating three times a day.
I'm not meditation everyday yet home but the days I do meditate I always feel better so that is motivating. Some days it is easy and I could meditate for hours. Other days it is a struggle every second.
I appreciate the material we were given that helps explain meditation. Now that I am getting more involved friends and family want me to explain and the vocabulary you have given us (Susan) has helped.
Hope all are doing well out there,
Teresa

Meditation clinic 1- Petaluma

As I read over everyone's comments I see so much of what I am also experiencing. I have been so excited since returning from the class and, most importantly, so very relaxed. Is it really the meditation, or am I just so delighted to be learning about something I have been interested in in a long time? I am struggling, though, with finding "my seat". I too wish Susan, or one of you, was here to correct my posture. I am also finding my breathing tight when I most want to relax. I am doing better with diaphragmatic breathing during the day- especially at work when I need to take a relaxing breath. I feel very fortunate that this course has found its way into my life. I am so looking forward to clinic 2! In the mean time though, I'll keep practicing and hopefully keep in touch with others.

Christine Dill, California

What an adventure...learning something I've been wanting to explore for a long time...meeting new people with similar goals. I've always felt there was a huge place for "alternative" practices in "Western" medicine and maybe I can be instrumental in that happening.
I've been enjoying getting up each day and doing about 10-15 minutes of yoga stretching and about 15 minutes of meditation. I actually look forward to it. I find my mind is very full of judgments...my seat is wrong, my posture is slumpy, by breath is tight etc. etc. etc. My practice is to acknowledge those thoughts and let them go...oh so much easier said than done and redone and redone....
I am learning so much and I am so grateful.

CA/Practice Challenges

Jan Haas
Petaluma
Once I switched my practice to the morning as soon as I arise and make it downstairs, things smoothed out for me. I feel good when it's done and I know I have honored my commitment. The dailyness is really difficult for me, so I am grateful this is working so well.

The next challenge arises as I leave tomorrow to take my mother (age 82) to Arizona to spend time with my Aunt and Uncle. We will drive because she loves to see the country change as we traverse from Missouri to Arizona.... she and my Dad used to make this trip and she has lots of memories to relive. I discussed my need for quiet time in the morning and explained what I would be doing. She will, I'm sure, be supportive. It's just so easy to say "I'll do it later today when it's more convenient." Unfortunately, it is never really convenient when you're staying in a motel or someone else's home.

I do love how I feel each day when I finish the meditation. I feel ready for the day physically, mentally and spiritually. A good feeling! I will miss access to this blog and your words for the next several weeks. If you are so inclined, send me prayers or energy or whatever you do in your spiritual practice that I will continue to grow in my practice.
Thanks Jan

Petaluma Clinic 1

As new to the class as well as quite new to meditation, I found the class informative and interesting. I did not realize how important finding your "seat" is. I really liked the group atmosphere which is unusual for me. The energy was calming and energizing at the same time. I miss that back at home and I am having to work considerably harder to find either of those. There are so many distractions at home, even when by myself. And yes the food was great and having to walk up that hill to get it was made it even better. We were blessed with the weather as well.

Petaluma Clinic 1

It is so good when you just know you've found something that is exactly what you've been looking for. That's how I felt as the clinic progressed. I love getting the science behind the behaviors. The practice is a stretch, but becomes easier with each repetition. I find it is not as easy to find my "seat" without Susan's guidance, but I do remember what it felt like, so I eventually find it. For me the biggest challenge will be to continue to do the practice daily and faithfully as the newness of the experience wears off. I have been doing my meditation at night, but I am going to try it in the morning instead. I find that I am sleepy at night and don't want to sit still for long. I want to go to bed! So we'll see how it goes when I try mornings instead.

after clinic 1

I can relate to your comments after you have completed clinic 1. I am currently getting ready for clinic #4 in pa. next week. and all i can say is that with time and practice and more clinics completed, it becomes easier to make the practice part of your daily routine. i now feel like i am missing something if i do not dedicate time daily for practice. Good luck and enjoy the journey.

Petaluma class

As a student in this class and quite new to meditation it was great to begin learning more about the process. I wasn't aware of how important posture and the "seat" are to meditation. The group atmosphere was wonderful and creates a very different energy from meditating alone at home. That is going to take real dedication. And yes the food was great. Having to walk up the hill to get it made it even better.

February Meditation Specialist Clinic #1

Great thanks to Susan for bringing this fantastic course to California. I am feeling so overwhelmed with all I brought home..but in a very positive way!

I was so excited to meet so many wonderful women, from all walks of life...thank you all for your support and friendship.

One lesson learned from my experience: I need to have non-work time prior to and after a clinic to focus my attention on all the information I receive.

Looking forward to seeing you in June.
Blessings,
Mary
